Hip Hop Shakespeare Live

Date: 18.5.16

To commemorate the work of England’s most famous playwright on the 400th anniversary of his death, WoW are bringing the London-based Hip Hop Shakespeare Company to Liverpool to deliver a series of exciting workshops in local schools, culminating in a performance by the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company at Bluecoat.
Both hip-hop music and Shakespeare’s theatre represent energetic and inventive forms of expression. Both are full of poetry word playing and lyricism. Both deal with what it is to be human, and issues from people’s lives, and of course, just like Shakespeare’s work, hip-hop is all about the rhythmic tension of words. The similarities between hip-hop and Shakespeare’s theatre are striking. As a media-savvy popular entertainer and talented businessman, surely hip-hop would have been Shakespeare’s thing don’t you think? The Hip-hop Shakespeare company is a music theatre production company founded by MOBO- award winning hip-hop artist Kingslee 2Akala Daley 27. Based in London by bridging music, theatre and performing arts in non-conventional venues they also strive to alter the perceptions of audiences of all ages, creating the ultimate entertainment experience via literature and the arts across the UK and beyond.
